DIOCESAN MUSEUM OF ART SACRO JESUIT GUARANI DE SANTIAGO

It comprises Guaraní Jesuit imagery and is installed in an old Jesuit building, with its remarkable Hispano-Guaraní Baroque carvings.

Located next to the ruins of adobe from the old church, as they were left with the grass that grows tall and green around it. The museum has four exhibition rooms, where baroque-style statues from the 16th and 17th centuries and vestiges of the old church of Santiago demolished in 1907 are exhibited. Among its main attractions are the statue of Felipe Neri (carving of a single piece two meters high), the original bell of the old church of Santiago from the year 1725, statuettes of saints, the re-enactment of the passion of Christ and imposing wooden columns and capitals.

This wonderful place was one of the smallest missions, the essence of the region is summarized like nowhere else, as it has one of the best preserved original urban centers with its Indian house and its museum of religious carvings of the highest archaeological value. This one with a particular style of flamenco influence. In its parish church you can see the only complete Jesuit altarpiece in the country and an impressive equestrian carving that represents Santiago defeating the Moorish. Its Patronal feast is celebrated every July 25, the date of the Patron Santiago Apóstol, also called Santiago Matamoros, a saint venerated in Spain as a defender of Christianity against Muslims.
