The owner, Santiago González Maudslay, began in 1998 to promote rural tourism, being a pioneer at a national level. They have held 18 editions of a festival known as “Gran Festival de La Doma y el Folklore”, whose origin is linked to Santiago and Estancia Tacuaty as much as yerba mate to Paraguay. And it is that this event is an inescapable part of the Festival of the Missionary Tradition that is now more than 40 years old. Santiago says that when he was in his early twenties, some 35 years ago, and the dictatorship raised the Yacyretá dam, thousands of residents of the capital began to arrive in his region, changing customs and traditions that the missionary people love like their own mother. The people of Santiago used to meet at their social club, where after playing soccer they celebrated by dancing, drinking and eating. You could only get in a suit and the best bands in the country came. Until one day it was all over. Relatives and high officials of the government of dictator Alfredo Stroessner appeared at the party breaking all the rules and causing incidents. “It was the symbol of change. There we decided to maintain our culture in front of new people and that was what we achieved with the celebration of missionary tradition ”explains Santiago sitting in the lobby in front of the restaurant of his catlle ranch.

The Great Dressage and Folklore Festival (Gran Festival de La Doma y el Folklore) is an impressive country festival of customs and traditions in which the most delicious typical missionary meals were offered to the sound of music, dances and songs that vibrate on a large stage set up for the occasio. Great artistis from Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay plays during the event. It is the highest expression of the famous Missionary Tradition and its strongest moment is the horse parade, where the colt struggles to free itself from the rider, who nails his boots on his bare back and resists the convulsions of the animal. About 10,000 spectators cheer and ask for more amid the red dust raised by the arm wrestling. The fight is recounted with wit and humor by popular poets: the traditional payadores. This is how the most admired show of the festival was lived, which brings together some 200 riders from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.
